I had met Senator Simon on a few occasions. The one thing I remember about him is that he always did the right thing. I don't ever recall him folding under political pressure. If fact I remember 2 years into his second term as our US Senator from Illinois, he decided not to run again in 4 years and he announced it publicly. In his statement, he said that there were a number of things he wanted to get done that were not very popular, but were the right things to do. Since he was not going to run for re election and didn't have to raise money he was going to get some things done that needed to be done. We need elected officials today like Senator Simon.
